CaseCheck™
Specifically designed for legal indexers, the CaseCheck utility validates case citations in tables of cases. [Note: this product is intended for use with case citations found in the U.S.]
CaseCheck works in two phases: first syntactical validations are performed and then cross checking is performed. The latter phase checks to see if a primary reporter cite is used for more than one case name.
Syntactical messages include but are not limited to:
- missing/improper reporter abbreviations, e.g., “F. 3d” rather than “F.3d”
- report with missing volume
- missing decision years
- missing/improper tribunals, e.g., “W. D. N. Y.” rather than “W.D.N.Y.” or “7th Cir” not “7th Cir.”
- subsequent actions not in italics
- subsequent action years not in chronological order
Example of a primary reporter used for two case citations where the defendant name is different.
